My favourite coffee stop in York. Pick a few books from the extensive collection, purchase a filter coffee (free refill) and while away some time in a lovely atmosphere. The live Jazz performances in the evenings are great too. Some items in the cafe are somewhat expensive. Rating: 75%

The most stunning interior in York - the Assembly Rooms really are a treat for the eyes and a gorgeous environment in which to enjoy a meal. If only the food at ASK was anywhere near as good as the surroundings this would be a classic restaurant - unfortunately, it's a bland Italian/Mediterranean menu, unimaginative and overpriced, and portions are tiny. This building cries out for something that celebrates British cuisine, not a lukewarm overgrown pizzeria. A disappointment. Rating: 100%
